Rin helps save another student at True Cross Academy who can see demons, and everyone else thinks he’s crazy. The council postpones Ron’s execution in favor of going after a more dangerous demon. Mephisto takes more interest in Rin and in training him to harness his demon powers. He also agrees to help Rin’s classmate, but Rin has to put in some work to get it. Meanwhile, Shura and other exorcists, including a paladin, chase down the latest threat to humanity. Shura finds a man-made gateway to Gehenna that is continuously expanding and threatening all of humanity and the Earth.
The intrigue with the exorcist society keeps growing as more is revealed about the inner workings. It doesn’t seem like an entirely altruistic society just concerned with fighting satan and his minions, as there seems to be levels of evil that they are willing to work with. Rin seems to be slowly becoming a better, deeper character - first with Kuro the cat, and now with his classmate, Rin has been showing his softer side. Overall though, this volume moved at a slower pace than the others. Here's hoping that the next installment in this story arc will pick up the pace a bit.
