Penelope's worst nightmares are coming true - Eckles is not the sure bet that she has believed him to be; Ivonne, the true daughter of the Eckhart family, has returned before she was supposed to; Penelope's coming-of-age ceremony is looming, and even though Ivonne has returned before she was supposed to, the ceremony spells the ending of hard mode and the deadline for which she needs to be at 100% with one of the love interest. Prince Callisto is also acting strangely and proposing courtship and even marriage despite not being at 100% in his affection meter.

Verite begins to investigate Abigail’s magical ability, which is based in curses and poisons — fitting for the evil queen of the Snow White stories. He also questions Sabrian’s affection for Abigail — is it just familial? Is it more?

One way loved ones can help is by purchasing purgatory cakes from a specialized bakery. These cakes take special ingredients and infuse memories from the living, and they are delicately baked with the utmost care by a skilled and kind baker with some otherworldly powers. Each chapter is a visit into these memories as the client purchases their specialized cake for their departed one.

The countdown finally expires, and Jinwoo confronts the monster who made him into the "awakened" being. 
A little boy comes to terms with his mother’s brutal murder in a sea of dead bodies in a dystopian landscape. He finally decides to trek on without her and start resource gathering. One night, he finds shelter in a school bus, but so does a little girl. From that point on, the two travel together and share spoils. Several days in, they find an older man who immediately hogs resources for himself, especially the entire bottle of water he chugs. The little boy feels apprehensive and tries to ditch him while they’re all sleeping, but it doesn’t go well.

As she lay dying of disease and poverty, Bianca begs for another chance at life and receives it. She’s reborn as her 18 year old self and is determined not to rehash her previous mistakes. Within a few days, her older noble husband returns from war, and the first thing she decides to set straight is the frayed relationship they had. She wants to try to produce an heir for him and make herself valuable to the family, especially knowing his fate is to die young in battle. Bianca often misinterprets her husband’s actions, thinking he may have a mistress that she will need to overcome. But what she doesn't realize is the level of respect her husband has for her despite his inability to properly show his feelings.

Aria begins to amass wealth in preparation for her eventual doom and also tries to keep all of her various plans in motion. From her knowledge of the future, she knows how trading will be monopolized, so she decides to capitalize on the luxury good of sugar as a way to make money but also hurt the nobility. But first, she makes some money quickly at the casino that is owned by the Crown Prince. Coincidentally, she gets an invite from Lord Asher to attend a secret society type think tank where she expressed her belief that the casino was a dangerous investment for the Prince. At this and several other meetings, Lord Asher continues to confound Aria and refuse to give up his true identity.

Abigail and Sabrian decide to start sharing a bed together, but Blanche doesn’t want to be left out. This cuts down on the awkwardness between the two parents at first. Then, the Queen Mother, Sabrian’s mom, comes for a visit, and Sabrian worries she will continue to be manipulative. She tries some of her tactics on innocent Blanche. Abigail and Sabrian converse about the best way to raise Blanche as a potential future ruler — is it better to be strict and raise her with a firm hand? Or is it better to let her enjoy her childhood and raise her with compassion? Then, a new music tutor is appointed, but Abigail gets a bad feeling from him and begins investigating his motives and family business. Sabrian also investigates, and what he finds out makes him more than a little perturbed.

Tia is finally able to become a knight, which means she can swear the blood oath to Ruve. But he doesn't accept her oath. Jieun continues to plot to become the crown princess, and Tia continues to be conflicted. A plot is uncovered that involves poisoning Ruve, and it's the same poison that was used against Tia. As a knight, she is assigned to be a personal aide to Ruve, so it becomes her duty to root out the perpetrator of the poisoning. What she uncovers confuses her and makes her question everything given what she knows from her past and how her life ended previously. 
Hayan continues to investigate the counselor and try to save the students from becoming his next targets. She discovers the secret of his hypnotism, aiding her in a nail-biting fight between this Angel of Death and his many victims. As that investigation wraps up, Hayan begins to be suspicious of Detective Euntae’s behavior. When confronted, Euntae at first dodges questions, but a slip up and a subsequent fire at an apartment building forces Euntae to reveal much of his past to Hayan, including why he’s on a crusade to rid the city of Angels of Death
