Shōyō Hinata loves playing volleyball, but he doesn't have enough people in his middle school club to make a full team. Instead, he practices with whoever will set the ball for him: the girls' volleyball team or a women's volunteer team. When he finally gets enough people to enter his first and last ever tournament of middle school, they lose miserably to Tobio Kageyama's team, the favorite for National competitions. When Hinata and Kageyama both end up at the same high school, they must set aside their middle school egos, learn to be teammates, and learn to share the spotlight before they can officially start playing with the High School Club Volleyball team. This world is ruled over by an Empire, at the helm of which is the Eternal Empress, one of the beings closer to a dragon than a human. Two young human “workers” for the empire both begin to have visions that lead them to break out of their enslavements and find each other.  When they get too close to each other, flames start shooting out of their hands, which has never happened to either before, and they coach each other through controlling this new power They decide they must escape the Empire, so they head towards the last kingdom on the planet that isn’t part of the Empire, just as the Eternal Empress sets her sights on conquering this last corner of the world.

On the morning of Barack Obama’s inauguration to his first term as president, Congressman John Lewis readies himself in his office in Washington D.C. A lady with two kids stops by the office, obviously not expecting the Congressman to be there, but they are delighted to find him and ask questions about his life and his involvement in the Civil Rights Movement. This launches Lewis down memory lane as he recounts his childhood from growing up on a farm, raising chickens, to going to school and getting involved in sit ins at local department store lunch counters.  The work isn't done with those demonstrations, as later volumes promise to hold other activism and demonstrations Lewis took part in and led.

After finding out the truth about the famous painting Sayuri, the Phantom Thieves take on the artist Madarame for all the evil he’s done to his students and victims, especially how much art he has passed off as his own when it was really the hard work of others all along. This high profile change of heart brings more notoriety to the Phantoms, but it’s not all good. Special investigators, the police, the school president, even a mysterious high school student detective have all started to investigate the Thieves.  Some believe their intentions to be good, but others wonder what laws they're breaking, and what sort of power they have over their targets to instigate this change of heart in the first place.  So far, none suspect there is really another "world" the Phantoms step into to change their targets' hearts.

Akira spent three years of his life post college working for a company that, on the surface, professed to caring about their employees, but the long hours, multiple-day marathon work sessions, and the attitudes of the bosses say otherwise.  The only thing making it slightly bearable is the crush he has on a lady in accounting.  One day, Akira wakes up and finds tons of people have been turned into zombies! Rather than be stressed about a zombie apocalypse, Akira is just relieved he doesn't have to go back to his horrible job.  What's more is his crush was also turned into a zombie, so there's really no reason to go back! Akira decides to make a list of all the things he wants to accomplish in his limitless spare time before becoming a zombie.  On a beer run to a neighborhood market, he runs into another non-zombie - a pretty beautiful girl with great survival instincts.  She waves off Akira's offer to team up, and we see a glimpse of her life, where she has made a list of 100 ways to avoid becoming a zombie.
