Sailor Moon - Naoko Takeuchi![]() Sailor Moon was originally published between 1991-1997 and was novelized as in 18 volumes. When VIZ Media acquired the title in 2014, they ran a re-release of the manga in 12 volumes and produced a new Anime series, Sailor Moon Crystal. Because of this, an entire new generation of fans were born. This series was my gateway drug into the world of Manga when I was in junior high (dating myself), and now my students are falling in love all over again with this timeless story. The manga follows the adventures of Usagi, or Serena in some versions, who is a reincarnated Moon Princess charged with protecting the galaxy. By her side are her faithful, albeit quirky and sometimes salty, Senshi (warriors) from each of the planets. As the series grows, we discover more and more reincarnated warriors, baddies back from the past, and even the love of Usagi's lives.

POKéMON by Hidenori Kusaka![]()
At its core, Pokémon is an adventure story following "trainers" - young people who capture creatures known as Pokémon and train them to compete in various tournaments. While this may sound cruel to rip these animals out of their environments and force them to fight, the trainers actually develop quite a bond with each Pokémon. There is also a lot of camaraderie between trainers, as well as the inevitable rivalries.
