The group finally make it back to the giant room where they were killed and find most of their gear under the snow and not fully eaten by dungeon cleaners. They also find a huge Ice Golem, and Izutsumi proves invaluable in the fight! Back on the surface, Shuro and Kabru find the elves are already with the Lord of the Island, and Kabru rushes in to give his report to them all. He reveals that his village was destroyed when the elves rushed in to a dungeon there, and urges them all to evacuate the upper levels of the dungeon and seal it off, rather than feed it with more troops. On Level 6, Laios finally acknowledges a ghost he’s been seeing since his mana sickness, and the spirit takes them all to a beautiful village somewhere inside the dungeon, where they learn of Sissel, the Lunatic Magician. Once back in Level 6, they’re attacked by a Griffin and finally get to learn the tragic backstory of Senshi.
This volume has a lot of story packed into it with the development of our big bad and the drop of Senshi’s origin all in one, as well as a bit of a throwaway of Chilchick’s that he sneaks in as a way to get Senshi to open up about his. Senshi’s backstory is a payoff worth the wait as Chilchuck does a bit of deduction that turns out to be pretty accurate and whets the appetite for the full story. We are also slowly getting to know about Izutsumi through intrusive thoughts that she declines to share with her party, but they endear her to the reader.
