Why rAeliana ended up at the duke’s mansion Vol 1 by Milcha

Cover of Why Raeliana ended up at the duke's mansion volume 1. Raeliana is in her signature pink poofy dress with red bow at the back. Her long, brown hair is tied back from her face with another red bow, but flows down her back. She is holding hands with the Duke Noah Wynknight, who is in a dark suit with gray vest. A blue cape adorns his shoulders.
Illustrated and adapted by Whale

While waiting to get accepted into college, Eunha is sucked into the world of a book she's previously read. The character she has become is destined to be killed by her fiancé, so Eunha/Raeliana is determined to figure out a way to stave off her terrible fate. She uses her knowledge of the world to find a man above the station of her would-be fiancé and enters into a contract (outwardly a sort of engagement) with him instead. Raeliana comes to live with her new beau, the Duke Noah Wynknight, who is one of the main characters of the story and the king’s brother. She knows all about his plans and many of his secrets, which she uses to her advantage, but finds out very quickly some of her schemes might come back to haunt her.

Here's another manhwa entry that deals with aristocracy and mind games, but there are some tidbits that make this title stand out a little bit more than others. When Eunha is reincarnated, she uses her knowledge from the book to help her, but she's not a know-it-all. There are still portions of the book that she's doesn't know or doesn't remember, so she has to work at her plans to make sure they are actually advantageous. This is a great companion read to The Abandoned Empress, but with a stronger heroine and a more engaging plot (pardon the pun).

The color illustrations by Whale are beautifully conceived but could use a bit more detail in coloring and shading. This, like many other manhwa, looks like animation cells taken from a cartoon and put into a page. I hope for more movement and life from the still panels in future volumes.

The characters may be a little bit older, but this storyline so far is appropriate for middle school audiences. The romance is fairly chaste at this point, so school libraries should be fine with at least purchasing volume one for now.
