Nene Yashiro, Hanako-kun, and the exorcist Minamoto have ventured into the Misaki Stairs, one of the school’s seven mysteries, to rescue Yashiro’s friend Aoi. Inside is a creepy staircase with piles of books and other bits the spirit has collected over the years. The three are given a terrible task of putting together a body out of scrap pieces for the spirit, who is trying to recreate a teacher from her past. Later, Minamoto’s older brother, also an exorcist, wants to exorcise Hanako, claiming that it’s only a matter of time before Hanako turns evil and tries to kill a student.
With the second of the School's Seven Mysteries explored in this volume, we get some more intrigue into the spirit world and its impact on the world of the living. Each of our three main characters are interesting - Nene is scared by all the rumors, but when it comes down to the wire in saving her friend, she is able to swallow her fears and be brave. Minamoto talks a big talk, but the truth is, he's trying to impress his older brother and may not be the most competent exorcist. Hanako has a lot more to him that we don't know yet, and he knows an awful lot about the spirit world. Hopefully, we'll find out more about him and why he knows so much about all of the spirits.
