Tanjiro passes the test to become an official demon slayer, but he doesn’t get the chance to ask any demons about saving his sister before he has to slay them. Now that he’s part of the corps, he is sent on his first few missions. The first is to travel to a village where young women are disappearing. The second is to a bustling 1800s Tokyo. While walking through the crowd, Tanjiro smells the demon who murdered his family and turned his sister, the powerful Kibutsuji. Tanjiro follows and confronts him, but the demon is holding a baby and is trailed by a wife! Tanjiro also meets two demons who perform medicine and try to heal humans who are attacked by other demons. Kibutsuji sends two of his inner circle after Tanjiro to kill him, and the whole situation puts the demon-doctors in jeopardy!
There is quite a bit of blood in this volume, but the rough way this is drawn makes it so that what we see isn’t super gory. The narration is slightly choppy and flashbacks aren’t made apparent like normal manga (which usually incorporates a black gutter to indicate flashbacks). I'd like to see more character development for Tanjiro and for his supporting characters. So far, the characters around Tanjiro are there to move the plot along. We get a little bit of development of the two demon-doctors, so I am hoping that we can get more in the next volume.
