Cover of House of El volume 2. Sera and Jahn are running towards the middle of the frame with Kryptonian buildings behind them. The sky is a dark orange like a sunset.
Vol 2: The Enemy Delusion, illustrated by Eric Zawadzki

The adventure continues right where we left off - Zahn and Sera have stolen a piece of technology from the house of El, but the can't figure out how to unlock more than its surface-level recordings to what, Sera assumes, is more information on the genetic manipulation Lara did to her. Later, Zahn and his classmates are analyzing the damage from an earthquake to a vital system. Zahn proposes rerouting the system to share the resources with the lower caste, and he's punished instead of applauded. Elsewhere, Sera is likewise reprimanded for proposing a new strategy to fighting deadly pests in the upper atmosphere of the planet. Zahn gives the group of dissenters, Midnight, the idea to go after the structure his classmates were just working to fix, but they are planning to take the attack too far, and he fears how many people might be in danger.

Cover of Galaxy: The Prettiest Star. Taylor, as her full alien self, sits atop a lit rooftop with a full moon and purple clouds behind her. Her guard dog is at her side. The shirt she's wearing has the Trans flag colors across her chest.
Illustrated by Jess Taylor

Taylor and her associates are posing as a makeshift family in a small town outside Metropolis, but they’re actually refugees from another planet, hiding from a cruel enemy called The Vane who destroyed their world. For an extra measure of protection, Taylor’s general and pretend father made Taylor’s disguise a human boy, even though Taylor’s true identity is The Galaxy Crowned, Princess of Cyandii, and she feels out of place in her male body. She also has a guard "robot", an adorable sentient corgi who follows her and records what happens daily. When a girl named Kat movea to their small town, Taylor’s facade starts to really distress her, and she breaks her cover to reveal her true self to Kat. The community, however, isn't as accepting of having an alien in their midst.

Cover of The Sandman volume 4. There's an eerie skull looking out at us, surrounded by floating words and an orange mist
Vol 4: Seasons of Mist, illustrated by Kelley Jones, Malcolm Jones III, Mike Dringenberg, Matt Wagner, Dick Giordano, George Pratt, P. Craig Russell

We open up on the Garden of Destiny, who is visited by the Three Fates. He is unsettled by what they reveal, so he calls the rest of his family to a meeting: Despair, Desire, Delirium, Death, and Dream. The family chides Dream for his short temper, particularly in the case of his former lover, Nada, who he condemned to torment in Hell for not agreeing to become his queen. He eventually sees their side, and decides to re-enter Hell to free Nada. This might be the end of him, as Lucifer told him so on their last encounter. He says his goodbyes and readies his kingdom, but when he enters Hell, he finds it eerily empty. Lucifer meets up with him and tells him he’s let all the demons go, he’s released all the tortured, and the dead have gone back to wherever they came from. He gives the Key to Hell to Dream and peaces out, knowing the possession of the key is going to make Dream’s life miserable. Shortly thereafter, hosts of deities show up at Dream’s castle, all with a claim to the Key to Hell.

Cover of Nubia: Real One. Nubia, a young Black woman, sits on a curb in a red Wonder Woman shirt and Wonder Woman cuffs. Her hands are interlaced in between her legs as she looks at us.
Illustrated by Robyn Smith

Nubia and her friends are hanging outside the local convenience store, sharing or bemoaning how they will spend their upcoming summer vacation. Oscar shows up, someone Nubia likes, and the other two make a quick retreat. Nubia psyches herself up to talk to her crush, but the store is held up by robbers at gunpoint. When Oscar is threatened by a gunman, Nubia does the only thing she can think of to save his life: throw an ATM at the perpetrators. But this breaks one of the cardinal rules of her moms: don’t use her superpowers, and definitely don’t do it in front of people and/or cameras. Amera and Danielle, Nubia’s moms, go into damage control to see if this is another situation where they need to up and move. Instead, they stick it out with the help from someone special from Prince Securities. This kicks off a series of decisions where Nubia acts against her moms’ rules, but usually only in order to protect someone she cares about. Nubia has to come to terms with her abilities and the responsibilities they bring, all while figuring out who she wants to be.

Cover of The nice house on the lake volume 1. A girl looks up from a lake full of skeletons, and she is horrified.
Illustrated by Álvaro Martínez Bueno, colored by Jordie Bellaire

A group of loose associates find themselves in a large, extravagant house on a beautiful lake, seemingly without other people or houses around them. They all discover they know Walter - some grew up with him, some crossed paths with him only a few months ago - but he was always heavily invested in them, someone who was right there at the right time and maybe faded away since. Then, Walter appears in the house and explains his intentions. He reveals he is part of an alien race, and his people intend to destroy the Earth, but he was tasked with picking the best of humanity to be saved. They will all be safe from the coming apocalypse in this lake house, where they will also have all their needs provided for, but everyone else they know and love will be horrifically killed. And they’re supposed to be thankful. But not all of them can sit idly by and enjoy the bounty of their sanctuary. Some of them start exploring their idilic prison and discover what was probably meant to be hidden from them forever.

Cover of House of El volume 1
Vol 1: The Shadow Threat, illustrated by Eric Zawadzki

House of El is a story of Kryptonians before Superman is even born. There is an impending doom of the planet that the Tribunes refuse to admit is real, but citizens are starting to act out and investigate what's happening. A group of dissenters recruits Zahn, of the House of Re, who is part of the upper caste and destined to become one of Krypton's future leaders.  Zahn knows that the earthquakes are getting worse and could be a sign that the planet is near to collapse. Elsewhere, Zahn's cousin, Lara, wife of Jor-El, is experimenting with rewriting the genetic code of Kryptonians in order to introduce missing elements left out from generations of genetic manipulation.  Their chosen subject is Sera, an Ur, a lower caste, genetically engineered soldier bred to be completely loyal to Krypton. Urs are modified to live life without fear, without questioning orders, and without regard to their own lives.  Lara hopes to create a better soldier with some semblance of self-preservation, believing that these omitted traits are essential for Kryptonians to fully serve their society.
