Hayakawa and his pet Penguin, Pen-chan, live in a normal apartment while Hayakawa attends university classes. Pen is an amazing pet - he helps around the house, does the shopping, cooks delicious and elaborate meals, cleans the apartment and does Hayakawa's laundry, and tries to do everything he can to make Hayakawa happy. But, most days, Hayakawa doesn't notice what Pen-chan has done for him! Hayakawa's friends realize what a great penguin he has, but Pen's owner remains oblivious.

Akihito relives the day of the festival when their classmate commits suicide, and particular focus is on one student who Akihito could have done more for. Akihito witnesses him constantly being bullied, and often stands up for him, but lets a couple of encounters slide without helping. Akihito wonders if this is the person who committed suicide and trapped them here, and whether it was entirely his fault. After this, Akihito disappears and doesn't get a chance to discuss with the others what he has discovered. Rika also gets separated from the group and has a flashback of her own and also disappears.

It’s Nagisa’s birthday, but the killer Kuromatsu, in Minato’s body, doesn’t know that. Despite being a wanted man, Minato (trapped in the killer, Kuromatsu’s, body) leaves a cake for his sister and a hopeful note. Minato tries to figure out how he can keep his sister the safest, and he determines he has to stay away from her while trying to figure out what Kuromatsu may have done to warrant the police and monsters to be after him. Meanwhile, Kuromatsu struggles at school and navigating who is Minato’s friends. He also recognizes someone the kids know as “Detective,” someone who has worked criminal jobs with Kuromatsu.

Seiichi has a fairly normal life full of going to school and being home with his family. His father is often away at work, so he and his mother spend lots of time together. He's a dutiful son who helps his mom when he can. His cousin comes over often to play video games, but Seii doesn't quite seem like he likes hanging out with him. Seii's friends are sort of mean to him but still try to invite him to get-togethers, most of which Seii turns down. In the first week of his summer break, his extended family decides to go on a hike and get away from the city for a while. What happens on the hike irreparably changes Seii's life and flips everything on its head.

Momo and the class nerd, who she’s nicknamed as Okarun, fight about what is actually real - monsters or aliens. Okarun sends Momo to a building rumored to have high alien activity, while Momo sends Okarun to a cave rumored to be haunted by demonic ghosts. Both find out the other is right. Momo is assaulted by aliens and they attempt to probe her, while Okarun finds a creepy ghost grandma who is obsessed with eating his penis. The two fight out of their terrible situations but now are being followed by the grandma ghost. Momo brings Okarun to her grandmother’s house where she can protect them with her substantial supernatural power. The three devise a strategy to try to get the ghost grandma off their tails.

Naomi graduated top of her class from Columbia, and could be reporting for any prestigious paper she wants. But, she has good reason to believe monsters are real, which led her into a career writing for the Yellow Stringer, a paper with a reputation for being a gossip rag with outlandish tall tales. Her new partner is Tony, an ex-cop who is looking for a steady job. Their first assignment is to investigate a potential theft at the local museum. Neither fully expected to find zombies involved! A few other cases come their way that shed light on Tony’s past. A bartender provides Naomi a place to recuperate after a terrible date, and the two end up getting tangled in a terribly-planned revenge plot against Naomi.

Belle is once again tricked by Giselle, who she finally discovers is the sister of the Breast, Prince Cyril. This time, she walks in on a private moment between Cyril and his fiancée, (old) Belle. The former Belle is slowly turning into crystal. Her heart was fragmented and used to make servitors for the terrible Madam La Medium, who cursed Cyril and the people who live in the castle. Belle realizes La Medium may also have her mother, but Cyril doesn't want to take her along in any confrontations because she's useless in a fight. (New) Belle also learns more about the castle's magic - one of Cyril's butlers is using his magic to slow time in the castle, and they are traveling between worlds to keep it ticking even slower in order to hopefully save (Old) Belle. (New) Belle also realizes that despite her better judgment, she is falling in love with Cyril.

Owner, the spirit who runs the inn, is back again taking secrets from desperate folks or saving them from interesting predicaments. A odd-couple husband and wife come to Owner and find out their individual secrets could have saved them a lot of heartbreak over the years. Owner later tasks Butterfly and Spider to care for a baby who mysteriously shows up at the inn, and the two are terrified when the child starts disintegrating into cherry blossom petals. Afterwards, the two accidentally break one of Owner's clay vessels he uses to contain secrets, and the secret escapes. Spider and Butterfly must now learn how to make a new vessel out of bone clay, and they must retrieve the secret to replace it.

The heir to the most powerful company in Japan has grown up with the family motto drilled into his head: never owe anyone. So when a girl who lives under a bridge saves his life, he has to do anything she says in order to repay the biggest debt of all. She wants to know what it’s like to fall in love, so he agrees to be her boyfriend and live under the bridge with her. He’s re-christened as “Recruit” or Rec for short, and he meets the rest of the residents with their strange behaviors. Nino, his new girlfriend, claims to be from Venus; the Mayor is a man in a kappo costume; Hoshi wears a star mask that hides his secret identity, which is a moon mask; Sister is a man dressed like a nun who might have a secret-agent past in England; and so many more interesting people. Everyone has a job and contributes to the community, except Rec, who now must find a way to be useful and not continue to be indebted to all these people.
