Twins Alec and Walker spend their last summer before college at their cousin’s home in the Southern United States. But, Alec was in the middle of some really in-depth experiments on plants and memory, so he’s brought them with him. When the dogs get into the boxes, they slowly start to change into the plants Alec has been experimenting on. Walker is a socialite and tries to get introverted Alec to join the party scene, but Alec isn’t interested in being with people. Alec makes one friend, another student using the school science lab over summer, and she shares her research on an extremely old oak tree that has been in the town since its founding. A boneheaded prank destroys a prized plant, and Alec uses puts his experimental formula into action to save what he can.
At the end of volume seven, the students were paired and pitted against a UA teacher as a type of final exam, and the first half of this volume concludes that storyline. Midoriya and Kacchan get paired and go against All Might. The objective is either to incapacitate the teacher, or to escape through an exit gate. Most teams plan to escape rather than fight such strong heroes. Bottom line, the team needs to work together and was paired together because this might not be the easiest thing to do. Not everyone in Class-A passes their exam. Thus, the Class A heroes-in-training go to a summer camp to receive extra training to catch up to where they should be.

T’Challa and Shuri take on the two prongs of this Wakandan Civil War, but one at a time. Then T'Challa and Shuri go after Tetu and Zenzi, and they must win over the men Zenzi is controlling with her powers. With Tetu out of the picture, Zenzi flees the country, presumably to regroup and come back to wage new war against T'Challa. He and his sister become Gotham and Gotham girl and fight crime trying to save the city. Batman isn't sure if he can trust them, so he puts them through some training and tests to see if they're superhero material. Wouldn't it be nice to have Justice League - level superheroes right in Gotham, rather than having to call Superman and Wonder Woman all the time?
Ida, Midoriya, and Todoroki continue to battle the Hero Killer Stain. Several actual heroes, including the mentors of all three students, come to help, but the students manage to subdue the Hero Killer by working together. Afterwards, All Might gives Midoriya some information about the origins of One for All, and clues him in to what might be waiting for him in his future. He doesn't tell Midoriya the most grim news, however. Then, the students prepare for their final exams, which include a test and a practical exam. The teachers decide that the students require more real-life scenarios than previous years, so they remove the robot combatants and pit two students up against each teacher! Of course, Bakugo and Midoriya are teamed up. Bakugo must learn to work with Midoriya despite his deep-seeded hatred.
