Chise and Alice Christmas shop in London, and both are stuck when it comes to finding a present for their masters. While walking around, they run into two men from Alice’s past, which prompts Alice to share some of her tragic backstory with Chise. When Chise returns home, she finds Elias is fairly miffed about her leaving without asking, but it turns out, he has been keeping tabs on her through her necklace and a contraption that can see her but not hear anything. Chise initially admonishes Elias for spying on her and not trusting her, but she comes to understand his fears for her safety and wellbeing.
Naho is a typical girl in Grade 11, with a solid friend group and all the worries of a high-school student: passing tests, what the future holds, boys, etc. One day, she receives a letter, from what claims to be her future self, warning her about what's happening in her life and trying to steer her away from bad choices. The letter comes just as new student Kakeru joins the class and her friend group. As the things in the letter start to happen, Naho has no choice but to believe her "future self" and try to make up for regrets and missed opportunities that haven't happened yet. To further tangle things, Takano also embeds chapters from the friends' future selves, and more clues as to what lies in store are revealed.
Joel has become ill, and Chise wants to save him, but old age and being siphoned by a sidhe has taken its tole on him. Rather than brew medicine for him, Chise brews a special potion that will allow him to see fae so that he can see his sidhe admirer for a moment. The brewing process is extremely taxing, and the fae world is not in favor of Chise brewing it because they don’t like humans to see them. Nevertheless, despite the hazards to her health and the constant need to watch the potion, Chise is successful, and Joel is able to see his sidhe for a few moments before he passes. The brewing process almost completely drains Chise, and Elias whisks her to the Fairy Kingdom in order to save her. There, a strange doctor, half human, half fae, uses some questionable methods to save Chise.
Master Lindel, the mage who trained Elias, invites Chise back to the dragon sanctuary to work on her wand. While there, Lindel tells Chise of the time he met Elias. Elias was a wandering creature walking through the woods, and Lindel offered him food and to take him back to his master, where they tried to ascertain what he was, and where he was given the name Elias. Elias has no memory of a time before he was walking through the woods, but he confesses to Lindel that he thinks he may have eaten humans at one point. Lindel tells this as a caution to Chise, and so that she will have the courage to speak up to Elias and ask questions of him. Once her wand is complete, Chise uses it to travel back home with every intention of confronting Elias and making him open up to her about himself and about magic.
Elias has revealed his full, true form, and takes on the being known as Josef, who has been trying to capture the Church Grim in order to make a chimera. Chise awakens from her injury inflicted by Josef, and she manages to calm Elias down back into his "human" form. She forms a bond with the Church Grim, who becomes her familiar even though he is a fae, which means his eternal life will end when hers does. Chise renames the Grim "Ruth" because of his loyalty. Days later, while wandering and looking for Elias, Chise comes across a man named Joel tending his garden full of beautiful roses. He has a muse attached to him, a parasite who normally feeds on the energy of people in exchange for inspiration, but this muse is content with just being near Joel. At the very end, Chise receives an invitation from Master Lindel to return to the Dragon Sanctuary to make her wand.
Akira and Amelia decide to adopt the not-so-fierce demon kitty. Amelia heals him, and Akira names him Night. Akira and Night form a new pact as master and servant, which will allow the demon king to still be able to see everything with the link inherent between demon king and all demons, but will give Akira and Night special abilities. Night reveals that there are three other dungeons in the world, and each dungeon challenges a different aspect of the character's skills. A portal opens at the end of the labyrinth, and Akira decides to travel to the next labyrinth in the forest of the Elven people, where Amelia is being hunted by her twin sister. With Akira caught right in the middle of the power struggle in the Elven kingdom, will he ever make it to the labyrinth to continue his development?

Akira has retreated back to the labyrinth his class went to in volume one, determined to gain maximum levels in as much as he can. He’s been in the labyrinth a month before he finds Amelia trapped inside a slime monster. She’s an elven warrior who has come to the labyrinth for the same reason, and the two decide to team up to defeat the most challenging monsters at the end of the labyrinth. Back in the castle, Kyosuke, another classmate whose class is samurai, wakes to find himself in the princess’s chamber, having just cut through six black crystals. He has no idea what he’s doing or what the crystals are until the next day when hero Tsukasa announces he’s going off to fight the demon king. The rest of the class ridicules him, all except six classmates, Kyosuke among them.
Almost two thousand years ago, a cavernous abyss was found on a remote island, delighting explorers near and far who had already explored the known world. A shanty town sprung up on the edge of this abyss, and an explorer caste system was created. Several layers of the abyss were explored, but people quickly found out that there were unavoidable sicknesses from ascending, similar to "the bend" on deep sea diving. The farther down one got, the worse the sicknesses get as you ascend. A young orphan named Rico wants nothing more than to become the top explorer, a white whistle. to follow in her mother's footsteps, another white whistle, and discover amazing things inside the abyss. One day, she comes across a robot boy whom she names Reg, and her desire to explore the depths of the abyss becomes a reality.

This has a really long, very Japanese title, but it's overall a fun story. Akira’s entire class gets suddenly transported to another world where they are tasked with fighting the Demon King and saving the kingdom. Each pupil, upon entering the world, was given skills and a job class that best suited them. Tsukasa, the class president and star athlete, was obviously the hero, and he has to lead the charge against the Demon King. Akira, however, is an assassin, and his stats are much, much higher than Tsukasa’s as the hero. Not everything is as it seems in this world, and Akira uses his max level [conceal presence] skill to find out what’s really going on. He befriends the commander of the guard and trainer of the Class, and uncovers a plot that speaks of more sinister intentions than just fighting a Demon King. |
