In this leg of the journey, the adventurers find themselves at the home of Sissel, the Lunatic Magician and Lord of the Dungeon, and find a disorganized mess of dirty dishes, broken mirrors, a library in disarray, and the bodies of Delgal’s family around a table. The party decides to clean the house while they scour for signs of the imprisoned Winged Lion. Sissel catches on to their activities, so they lay a trap for Falin and plan to take on the Lunatic Magician. As Sissel bemoans his now clean house, we learn how he became the Lord of the Dungeon in his attempt to protect the people of the Golden Kingdom.

Laios finds himself within an inch of his life after being attacked by a fierce suit of armor. As the party helps him recover, they are beset by succubi, and everyone is susceptible except Izutsumi. She nurses them back to health using cooking methods she thinks Senshi would follow if he were able. Laios has an illuminating dream while knocked out from being drained by the succubi, except he only remembers, “don’t trust the Canaries.” Elsewhere in the dungeon, Kabru and Captain Mithrun of the Canaries have fallen to the 6th floor after their run in with the Lunatic Magician, and to Kabru’s ultimate disgust, they must resort to eating monsters in order to survive, just like Laios. Mithrun tells Kabru about his past and why he’s very powerful but helpless at the same time, and why the dungeon seems to be providing for their every need.
Our merry band of adventurers carelessly traipes through a ring of changeling mushrooms on their way out of volume 7, and as they sleep at the beginning of volume 8, they awake to find themselves all in another’s skins, so to speak. Senshi is an elf, Marcille is a halffoot, Chilchuck is a tall man, Laios is a dwarf, and Izutsumi is a kobold. Their fighting styles are nearly impossible when their magic runs dry quickly, strength is nonexistent, senses are all wrong. They have to find more mushrooms to change themselves back but the dungeon is still moving and forging new paths forward instead of backward. We also learn more about Chilchuck’s past with his family and estranged relationship with his wife. Meanwhile, the elves also try to close up the dungeon but things don’t go according to Kabru’s expectations as the elves come face to face with the Lunatic Magician.
Laios confides in Shuro, one of their former party members and the man in love with Falin, but it backfires and Shuro is appalled by what kind of magic Marcille used to resurrect their fallen party mate. The large group’s resting activities gain the attention of monsters in the area, including a certain human-chimera they’re searching for, and Shuro’s worst fears are realized. After the fight, Shuro decides to report Marcille to the Elves of the West. Laios’s party make up their minds to venture father in to confront the Lunatic Magician to see if there is any way to save Falin, or if they’ll have to rectify their wrong. They head down to level 6, where the monsters are all about mind games. While on this floor, they are joined by a member of Shuro’s party - Izutsumi, who has some special traits and reasons of her own for finding the Lunatic Magician.
After an encounter with the Lunatic Magician, the party recovers in the care of a group of orcs. In another part of the dungeon, another party is revived and tries to figure out why all of their food is gone but none of their money. One member, Kabru, thinks it might have something to do with Laios. They dodge some body snatchers who were sent to retrieve their dead corpses, then join another group, led by Shuro, who is seeking out Falin. Back with our adventuring group on Level 5, they've decided to go back to the surface and report what they’ve seen to the Lord of the Island, and perhaps come back a little more prepared to take on the Lunatic Magician. But, the dungeon is moving, which is making getting back to the surface near impossible.
While the adventurers have finally reached Level 5 where the Red Dragon has been dwelling, Namari and her party reach the surface and resolve the tasks of their party. Namari's benefactor report to the Lord of the Island, and we learn some background about the dungeon and some hints as to who might be the creator of the dungeon. Back inside, Marcille, Laios, and Senshi hatch a plan to take on the Red Dragon. Initially, Chilchuck wants nothing to do with it, but he gets sucked into the planning phase and agrees to help. Then, it's time to find out if Falin can be revived, and someone in the party has been harboring a secret that will help, but terrifies the rest.
Our adventuring party continues deeper into the watery depths of Level Four. Marcille recalls a a story from her school days where she learned about building dungeons and befriended an odd but gifted magic user name Falin. Another group of adventurers catches up to the party, and they are aided by a fighter named Namari who used to be part of their group. They partially blame her for Falin’s predicament, but Chilchuck reminds them an adventurer’s ultimate loyalty is to coin, rather than friends. They all have a scary run-in with some tentacles that actually yields some delicious results even though some walk away with swollen body parts. In the end, our adventurers fight through some giant frogs to find themselves at last at the base of the Orc village they’ve been seeking.
Widower Inuzuka is very busy teaching and raising his young daughter, and he relies often on food from the Konbini (convenience store). While at a park celebrating the bloom of the Sakura trees, Inuzuka runs into a young woman who has a delicious picnic lunch from her professional chef mother. She invites the two of them to the restaurant to try the food for themselves. One night, Tsumugi, Inuzuka’s daughter, asks for something delicious, and he rushes to the restaurant only to find it closed. Kotori, the girl from the park, is there and laments that her mother is often too busy now to keep the restaurant open. The two come to find out that neither one knows how to cook very well, and after some goading from Inuzuka, they decide to get together once a week to practice cooking. Inuzuka is also embarrassed to find out Kotori is in his homeroom class, and he didn't recognize her!
The party has gotten to the third floor, but there are a lot of undead creatures here, and not many edible ones. When Senshi hears there are golems nearby, he springs to action to incapacitate them by removing their monster core. He then inspects the crops growing along their back that he planted the last time around, and there’s a bumper crop of cabbage, carrots, and more. After the harvest, he tills and plants more things with the help of the party, and replaces their core, so the crops maybe continue to grow for his next time around the third floor. Then, some orcs demand their leftover crops, but they barter as they overheard the orcs talking about the red dragon. Laios jumps into some living pictures and eats plenty of food from the festivals there, but upon leaving the painting, he discovers he’s hungry all over again. Chilchuck gets tricked by a mimick yet again, but it leads to another delicious meal. The party is about to travel to the fourth floor, but first they have to get across a treacherous lake with deceptive kelpie.
Gordon is living the dream: making boatloads of BTLs or Squid burgers to sell on his food truck. His only problem? There aren’t many customers to be found in this war-torn, post-apocalyptic landscape. One day, on his way to find some customers, Gordon narrowly misses running over an air-conditioned sleeping bag in the middle of the road. Inside the bag is a naked woman who is ravenously hungry. Gordon brings her aboard the truck and sets out some food and water, which she devours instantly. She proceeds to the devour all of the BTLs he made, plus pretty much all of his other provisions, prompting a trip to the desert ocean where he can fish for wildlife that has evolved since the oceans dried up. Later, Gordon and his new companion help a town being held hostage to make beer at a brewery, and the military catches up with them. Both Gordon and Arisa seem to have a past with the military, and this shared adversity makes them deadly fighting partners against the trained soldiers.
