As she lay dying of disease and poverty, Bianca begs for another chance at life and receives it. She’s reborn as her 18 year old self and is determined not to rehash her previous mistakes. Within a few days, her older noble husband returns from war, and the first thing she decides to set straight is the frayed relationship they had. She wants to try to produce an heir for him and make herself valuable to the family, especially knowing his fate is to die young in battle. Bianca often misinterprets her husband’s actions, thinking he may have a mistress that she will need to overcome. But what she doesn't realize is the level of respect her husband has for her despite his inability to properly show his feelings.

Despite getting a second chance at life, Bianca does not come back as a perfectly reformed character, and she still has plenty of rough around the edges. She's tough, and potentially hard to love. There are some very real and relatable moments in this first volume, as well as some beautiful examples of honest conversations between two adult people building a life together who obviously have some hurt to overcome. Bianca is a flawed main character who doesn't have it all figured out, but readers will still want to root for her to succeed this time around.

IZE Press rates this for Older Teen. In this volume, there was an intense moment where Bianca was punishing a servant that bordered on torture. I could definitely see potential for this series to get steamier down the road as Bianca's main ambition is to become pregnant.
