Doctor Rei's other patient, Miss Alde, finally arrives, but she isn’t like Mira suspected. Alde wants nothing to do with Mira and believes that no one can truly understand her affliction. Alde suffers from shadow sickness, which makes her unable to be outside in the sunshine, nor have anything touch her that has had the sun shine on it. Mira enlists the help of Mr. Capri to try to break down the walls Alde has built around herself. After Alde and Mira’s encounter, Miss Stella takes Mira on an adventure to a beautiful night forest full of wonderful starry rivers, magical creatures, and illuminated plantlife.

In the slums of a city, Lady Bale has finally found the child she’s been looking for -- a young girl with beautiful golden locks and turquoise eyes, the spitting imagery of her father. Lady Bale snatches her up and whisks her away to the family home and transforms the young girl into a little boy, Camellius Bale. The calculating lady worries about her family's status with her eldest son’s questionable health, even if she is loathed to bring in a bastard child of her husband’s shameful misdeeds. Camellius does her best to follow the lady’s commands in the hopes of one day leaving the Bale house and being reunited with her mother.
While on a field trip to a museum, Anya’s school bus is hijacked by a terrorist group known as the Red Circus. The group plans on ransoming the valuable Eden Academy students in exchange for release of their associates from prison, as well as a few other demands. Very quickly, Anya and Damian get slapped with a bomb collars, but Anya’s telepathy keeps her calm and collected known the gang's plans and true intentions with the children.

With the facility compromised by Suchan’s reconnaissance team, Pet Shop sends in someone to take out the Nest forces and remove all the evidence. The team gets split up - one half fights to rescue survivors and save them from feed training while Suchan takes on a deadly Antlion infused soldier who takes Suchan to the limits of his complexes. As the battered Nest students head back to the school, there's no rest for them as they have an Extra Credit assignment that exposes them to their weaknesses and forces them to overcome their toughest obstacle in order to pass their midterm assessments.

Pigeon returns home to try to help his family but finds his village has been decimated by storms from the uncontrolled tides of Luna’s abandoned post. Soluna wanders the wilderness and is attacked by a mysterious inky blob. When Pigeon is discovered by the kingdom’s monk, he is chastised for not carrying out his sacrificial duty correctly and sent to Aquarius’ kingdom in order to make things right with the gods. Meanwhile, Soluna wanders into a different village looking for help but is spurned there because everyone believes her to be a beggar. Carina and Ana attend a high stakes dance school in Bucharest, Romania, where if you aren’t good enough, if your body is taking up too much space, if you were hurt too long, if you don’t do better, you will lose all you ever wanted. Carina puts all she is into dance. Ana puts all she is into Carina. Ana's roommate, Sara, is possibly the best dancer the school has ever had, but she's infatuated with her teacher. Each practice or missed practice exposes the flaws of the unrequited relationships. Perhaps the next dance will be the one that gets them to understand who they are, their potential, and their dreams.

Sir Jinshi asks Maomao to complete the investigation of the poisoning from the garden party by going undercover in the Garnet Palace, home of Lady Aduo, the longest reigning consort of the current emperor. Maomao doesn’t appreciate being a spy, but when a maid from the Garnet Palace is found dead, she is intrigued enough to succumb to Jinshi’s plans. What Maomao discovers is a plot that stretches back decades, involves other consorts, the emperor himself, and could end her employment at the palace.
Suzume and the other keepers get the dinos ready for winter by preparing special bedding and changing the enclosures to be heated. Then, a velociraptor escapes from some smugglers and is on the loose in a populated area. Suzume and Kaidou are called upon to help capture the poor creature. They head into the city to search for clues, and Suzume uses much of what she’s learned as a new keeper, including its wintering habits, to help track the velociraptor.
An overworked apothecary contemplates death one day and jumps into a well, but discovers one of her old nursery rhyme to be true - that wells are connected to other worlds. She finds herself in the underworld where Lord Hades is in need of medical attention. After being in the underworld for so long, he’s developed an allergy to the sun, which has caused a rash and fever. As any good healer would do, Colette takes Hades into her care and begins visiting the underworld often on house calls.
