When he goes next door to borrow the implements of his suicide attempt, he discovers a den of writers and forcefully receives a commission from successful writer, a former university compatriot, Geppo Yagira. Subaru’s feelings of self-doubt and desire to please his new patron bring forth a satisfactory story, but in subsequent months, he reveals his true muse to Geppo — an actress at a now defunct theater company.

Norman's self-insert welcome a young child and a Black adult to a curling club while featureless current members sit in the club’s meeting room and tackle the difficult task of confronting Curling's problem with welcoming racially diverse new members. Throughout, a news-reporter type character interjects for the reader and provides insight from the Black perspective.

Frieren, Fern, and Stark make it to a remote village via a very unused road where they run afoul of a shadow assassin who has been waiting to mark off his last target for decades. Then, Fern and several of the other First Class Mages, include Übel and Land, are given a very important assignment. Mistress Sense is attending a function at the Imperial Castle, and there have been reports of an assassination plot against her. Since mages are susceptible to physical assaults, the First Class Mages are to infiltrate and stop this plot. Übel and Land are teamed up to go under cover while Fern is to investigate, leaving Frieren and Stark to tag along in the Imperial Capital. 
Umiko is a recent widow adjusting to her new solitary circumstances and lifestyle. She and her late husband enjoyed watching movies, but Umiko often found herself watching how the movie affected her husband or the audiences when they went to the cinema. One day at movie theater, she again found herself watching the audience, which caught the attention of film student Kai, who similarly watches audience’s reactions. The two become acquaintances, and Umiko is nervously inspired to enroll in Kai’s same art university in the hopes of making movies herself.

Seven years have passed, and Vikir has completed his sword training, has mastered three sword forms, and has become one of the top swordsmen in his age group. His father rewards him with a surprising placement as a deputy magistrate of the city of Underdog. This posting is a trial and something usually reserved for pure blood children, but Vikir chooses to see everything as an opportunity for carving out revenge on the Baskervilles. Later, in an inspection of the ruby mine entrusted to the Morg Family, Vikir is reunited with Camille as she combats constant barbarian attacks her operation. 
Konosuke, Bokutake, and Aki have caught up to Dosuke and his sister Katsu, the two fierce sorcerers who have Tsuki in their clutches. Konosuke squares off against Dosuke and uses some of the new skills he has learned in controlling metallic swords and summoning powerful swords made of magic to cut through the spells of his opponents. All the while, he must try to keep Dosuke away from sources of water as that will lead to certain defeat. Bokutake meanwhile reveals much about himself and engages in the fray, though he isn’t a particularly honorable fighter.
Prince Sirius ventures into a secluded forest to find a rare medicinal herb that may help add years to the life expectancy of his terminally ill best friend. The one who may be able to help him locate this herb is a brooding woodcutter, Ombre. The two have a violent history that Sirius doesn’t seem to remember but is the source of all Ombre’s rage. Ombre agrees to help Sirius, but secretly, he's plotting his revenge against the pampered noble. He lures the prince into his remote hut and arranges an agreement while it will take weeks for Ombre to locate the elusive herb, all while lulling Sirius into a false sense of security.
