Frieren and Denken relive Macht's memories and see him come to Weiss. They see the deal he makes with the lord of Weiss and all of his time in the Northern Lands was spent in order to understand human emotions. Frieren spends two additional months analyzing Macht's memories in an effort to break down the Diagoldze spell to find a way to counter it. Another powerful demon from Macht's past, Solitär, comes to help break Macht out of his barrier around Weiss. Fern and Stark confront her, yet Frieren's teachings lead Fern to want to flee because Solitär is a powerful demon with no recorded past - meaning she most likely rarely leaves victims alive to tell of her.

The battle with the ants rages on with the S-Class heroes taking on the queen when an even more fearsome warrior enters the battlefield: the ant king. Jinwoo and his shadow soldiers engage with hordes of ants on the surface and draws the attention of the ant king after it takes down several hunters. And, because one team travels with a camera crew, much of Jinwoo’s battle was televised for most of Korea to see. The footage also caught the attention of the Americans, who are now heavily trying to recruit Jinwoo. 
Our merry band of adventurers carelessly traipes through a ring of changeling mushrooms on their way out of volume 7, and as they sleep at the beginning of volume 8, they awake to find themselves all in another’s skins, so to speak. Senshi is an elf, Marcille is a halffoot, Chilchuck is a tall man, Laios is a dwarf, and Izutsumi is a kobold. Their fighting styles are nearly impossible when their magic runs dry quickly, strength is nonexistent, senses are all wrong. They have to find more mushrooms to change themselves back but the dungeon is still moving and forging new paths forward instead of backward. We also learn more about Chilchuck’s past with his family and estranged relationship with his wife. Meanwhile, the elves also try to close up the dungeon but things don’t go according to Kabru’s expectations as the elves come face to face with the Lunatic Magician.

In a future that seems much closer to reality than science fiction, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is aided by private company Blume Japan and its powerful data-collection system, J-ctOS, to help fight, predict, and solve crimes. Some of this doesn’t sit well with Inspector Goda, who thinks J-ctOS incapable of chasing down leads who leave behind no data points. To complicate things further, a cyber activist group known as DEDSEC takes an interest in Goda because he may not be as dumb as all cops, and might prove useful in the fight against corrupt artificial intelligence. 
One summer, Hikaru went up into the mountain, but what returned might not be Hikaru. Yoshiki doesn’t want to believe his best friend is dead, but he has a suspicion that whatever this thing is, isn’t his friend Hikaru. This creature might have all of Hikaru’s mannerisms and memories, but it’s not his best friend. However, is being around this thing better than not having Hikaru at all? Yoshiki receives several warnings from the townsfolk that what he’s with is evil, that he shouldn’t get too close, but the conflict in him only grows.
In a strange black-and-white city, Zet is studying to become a holy leader for his people. That means stamping out all traces of color and keeping them safe from the fierce creatures on the other side of the walls that thrive on color. One day, Zet discovers a creature in the tallest tower, a creature with two different colored eyes. But she's a girl, not a monster, and her very existence conjures questions about the rules of color, the way of life for those inside the walls, and what sacrifices are truly necessary for their survival.

While recovering from over-exerted herself during sword training, Tia is summoned to the Imperial Palace where the Emperor discovers she has been left with no guards while all of the soldier’s in her father’s care are off quelling riots and fighting skirmishes. While she is at first hesitant to accept Imperial guards at her house, she realizes she can now have someone to continue her sword training. Soon, it is spring, and Allendis returns from the front. But, it is also almost time for the prince’s coming-of-age ceremony where Tia wants to declare she is the heir to House Monique. This might be difficult with her father not back from the far reaches of the kingdom! 
Nagisa continues to document Koro-sensei’s weaknesses, and another one comes in the form of the curvy new English teacher, Ms. Irina Jelavitch, who is actually also a trained assassin! She uses her feminine wiles to get close and trap Koro-sensei, which also includes extorting Nagisa for the intel he has already gathered. When her initial plans fail, Ms. Vitch must endear herself to the students to earn her spot among Class 3-E. Then, it’s time to prepare for the Midterm, and Koro-sensei isn’t about to let his pupils think less of themselves, even if the whole school is against them. Afterwards, the whole school goes on a trip to Kyoto, which might be the perfect time to plot an assassination attempt via snipers.

Mysteriously one day, a layer of circular space ships appeared in Earth’s atmosphere but did little else to impact the day to day life on the planet. After the initial shock, humans went about their business, until one day, the little ships started sending down their inhabitants. The elderly people, termed progenitors, needed a place to go and people to care for them. With a promise of a government subsidy, many families took in one or more progenitors. The government was sure they would, in exchange, receive technological advances from these wizened older humanoids. Zhihan, meanwhile, was untrusting and disgruntled, just as her grandma was at first. With few resources for her family, how could she expect to keep another mouth fed? 
John is an outcast who hasn’t had many friends, so when the dazzling Stevenson twins took a liking to him, he became mesmerized. Twins Jekyll and Hyde were always charismatic and well loved, but John seems to be the only one who could accurately tell them apart. When the untimely death of one twin leaves a devastating hole for the other, John diligently works to uncover secrets the twins kept from each other and the world.
